Voluntary National Review

In July 2022 at the session of the High-Level Political Forum Kazakhstan presented its second Voluntary National Review on the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.

The Voluntary National Review (VNR) is a document containing the results of achievements analysis and identifying challenges faced during the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Kazakhstan.

44 countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews.

In New York at the 2019 session of the High-level Political Forum on the UN Sustainable Development Goals Kazakhstan presented its first Voluntary National Review.

The difference between the 2022 VNR and the first VNR is that the 2022 VNR reports data not only on the progress of the 17 SDGs achievements, but it also provides the results of studies conducted in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program: the Development Finance Assessment, the Rapid Integrated Assessment. A brief gender analysis is also presented using the methodology developed based on the example of one region jointly with UN Women.

VNR also provides information on the participation of business and civil society representatives in the implementation of the SDGs in Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Institute of Economic Research JSC with the support of the UN Joint SDG Fund prepared the National Voluntary Review of Kazakhstan SDGs.
VNR presentation included a video on Kazakhstan's achievements in the field of sustainable development.

For reference: The High-level Policy Forum (HLPF) is an annual intergovernmental event where countries review and report on progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Development Finance Assessment evaluates the architecture of the country's SDG financing and examines critical gaps in knowledge about the volume and trends of the development financing available in the country, taking into account the current progress in achieving the SDGs.

Rapid integrated assessment helps countries to assess their readiness and institutional capacity to integrate Sustainable Development Goals into development planning programs at the national and local levels. In other words, it is the coverage of the SDGs by strategic and program documents.
