Thematic discussion on the topic “Sustainable and inclusive development” of the Xth International Conference “Development Stories: A Look Inside”

On June 11, 2019, in the framework of a parallel thematic discussion on the topic “Sustainable and inclusive development” of the Xth International Conference “Development History: an Inside Look”, Kazakhstan's experience in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in preparing the Voluntary National Review (DND) was discussed. The conference wa.organized by the ALE "Civil Society Development Association" (ARGO).

The discussion was attended by representatives of civil societ.organizations of Central Asia, state and business structures, internationa.organizations.
The event was moderated by Jamilya Asanova, Executive Director of ARGO.

Presentations were made by: Aliya Galimova - Chairman of the Civil Society Committee, Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan;  Nurzat Abdyrasulova - President, Unison Group, Kyrgyzstan;  Nurgul Dzhanaeva “Forum of Women's NGOs”, Kyrgyzstan.  From JSC Institute for Economic Research - Natalya Novokshanova with a presentation on the work done to prepare the DNO.
Also actively involved in the discussion were Natalia Maksimchuk, UNISCAP representative;  Tatyana Shakirova, manager of the Education for Sustainable Development Program;  Kuralay Karibaeva, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Kazakhstan;  Farukh Akhrorov representative of Journalism and Democracy, Tajikistan.

The session participants noted the relevance of sustainable development for the countries of Central Asia and the need to identify further steps to achieve the SDGs in the region and the world.  The need for close interaction between government bodies, the civil sector, internationa.organizations and NGOs in the exchange of experience and the construction of effective platforms for training and informing all stakeholders about the SDGs is identified.
After an active discussion, the participants agreed that the draft DND reflects the progress towards achieving the SDGs in Kazakhstan.
