January 14 this year, a meeting of the expert platform on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals held in Nur-Sultan. During the event, the results for 2019 were summarized, and topical issues on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (hereinafter - the SDGs) in Kazakhstan were discussed. The even.organized by Institute of Economic Research JSC in conjunction with the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan and the Representative Office of the Asian Development Bank in Kazakhstan.
Representatives of 5 working groups (People, Peace, Prosperity, Partnership, Planet), as well as non-governmenta.organizations and the expert community took an active part in the event. The Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Economic Research JSC (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) R. Sultanov announced the launch of the Expert Platform on the basis of the Institute for Economic Research JSC, which will ensure the wide involvement of various stakeholders in discussing the most pressing issues and developing effective measures in the field of sustainable development. Also, the Institute's Deputy Chairman Sh. Zhakupova shared the main results of the work carried out in 2019 as part of a joint project with UNDP and the ADB Office in Kazakhstan.
The head of the UN Program in Kazakhstan, Yakub Berish, noted the need to integrate the principles and indicators of the SDGs into the State Planning System, as well as to seek active involvement of the private sector in the implementation of the SDGs, with the aim of generating additional sources of funding. In turn, the Director of the representative office of the Asian Development Bank in Kazakhstan Giovanni Kapannelli emphasized the efficiently built Coordination mechanism at the Government level, as well as the important role of Kazakhstan in promoting the SDG principles in Central Asia.
Also, during the event, non-governmenta.organizations and the expert community presented their proposals and vision on the localization of the SDGs in Kazakhstan, the elaboration of which is one of the priority tasks of the Expert platform at the Institute of Economic Research JSC this year.
