Coronavirus vaccine ready for testing
10.08.2020
The Biosafety Research Institute has developed a vaccine against the coronavirus.
Vaccine tests will begin in September. Work with live coronavirus began in April - after the government approved a vaccine development program and pathological material was delivered to the institute. On May 15, the first Kazakhstani inactivated vaccine against coronavirus received WHO registration. On the same day, preclinical tests on animals began. Vaccinations were given to rodents - laboratory hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, as well as ferrets and rabbits. A little later, when the vaccine was found to be safe, it was administered to primates. In parallel with this, a batch of an immunological preparation was transferred to the National Center for Expertise of Medicines for issuing an opinion. Seven developers of the Kazakhstani vaccine against COVID-19 voluntarily tested it on themselves to ensure safety while working with the virus.
