Carbon dioxide emissions fell by 8.8% in the first half of the year when production and traffic were suspended in many countries. The corresponding study, prepared by a group of scientists from China, France, Japan and the United States, was published on Wednesday.

The emissions reduction is 1.55 million tons (CO2).

"By July 1, the impact of pandemic on emissions around the world had decreased since quarantine restrictions were relaxed and some economic activity resumed especially in China and some European countries", - according to the study.

It is noted that in the summer there was a significant reduction in emissions in some countries, for example in the United States, moreover, transport-related emissions remained at a lower level than before the pandemic.
