Former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov assumed power as President.
On October 16, Sadyr Zhaparov, the Acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic, signed a decree "On assuming Presidential Powers of the Kyrgyz Republic", the President's Press Office reported. The document notes that Zhaparov takes office after the former President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and the former Government of the Republic resigned, and the speaker of the Parliament Kanat Issayev refused the powers of the Acting Head of State.
The Decree signed by Zhaparov contains a number of resolutions aimed at stabilizing the social and political situation, the economy, ensuring and protecting the rights and freedom of citizens of the country, and also aims to ensure the functioning of state and public institutions.
Zhaparov ordered "all heads of state bodies, including law enforcement agencies, courts and executive local government bodies, to ensure the functioning of the bodies entrusted to them in the normal mode." The requirements apply, in particular, to the country's Prosecutor General's Office, the State Committee for National Security, and the Government.
