European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement on results of the US presidential election.
"I congratulate wholeheartedly Mr. Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election and look forward to meeting him at the earliest opportunity. The European Union and the United States are friends and allies, and our citizens have the deepest ties. Together, we have built an unprecedented transatlantic partnership based on shared history and values of democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice and an open economy. This partnership has been a foundation of liberal, rules-based international order for decades, and remains a pillar of stability, security, and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic. As the world continues to change and new challenges and opportunities emerge, our renewed partnership will be of particular importance. The European Commission is ready to step up cooperation with new administration and new Congress to address the pressing challenges we face, in particular: fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and social consequences, fighting climate change together, and promoting digital transformation that benefits people, strengthening our common security, as well as reforming the rules-based multilateral system", Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement. Candidate from the Democratic Party of the United States, Joe Biden, received necessary electoral votes to win the presidential election in the United States. Immediately after taking office as Head of State, Biden is going to sign a series of decrees and cancel some of the initiatives previously put forward by his opponent in the election. First of all, Joe Biden shared, he and his team will develop a plan to combat the coronavirus. Donald Trump did not admit tdefeat, saying that the counting of votes can not be considered completed. He also confirmed his intention to appeal to the courts, considering that numerous violations were committed by Democrats during the election.
