Prospects for cooperation between countries of the Eurasian Economic
Union and Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia were discussed by
representatives of the business and expert communities at the first
Ethiopian-Eurasian Business Forum, which was held in an online format.
"... We note the increased interest in deepening dialogue with the EEC on the part of a number of countries of the African continent, which is largely due to the attention to various aspects of supranational regulation within the EAEU", said Gohar Barseghyan, Director of the Integration Development Department, who represented the Eurasian Economic Commission at the Forum Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia Aargau Alemayehu Tegenu, in turn, expressed interest in deepening trade and economic cooperation with countries of the Union. According to Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute for African Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences, Ethiopia is particularly attractive for investors due to the Chinese New Silk Road passing through its territory, as well as the growth rate of the Ethiopian economy. The Business Forum also discussed investment, use of financial instruments in development of trade and economic cooperation, transfer of innovative technologies and joint ventures, and creation of a system of preferences in Ethiopia for businesses with the Union countries. The event was attended by representatives of official and business circles of Ethiopia, as well as the expert and business communities of the EAEU States. For reference: Trade turnover of the EAEU with African countries has almost tripled over the past 10 years, exceeding $20 billion. At the same time, there is a serious reserve for increasing trade, economic and investment cooperation.
