Kazakhstan took over the chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union from January 1, 2021. Implementation
of new joint infrastructure project will help further improve economic
cooperation between the business entities operating in the EAEU states,
according to the Kazakh president. The states participating in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should boost industrial cooperation, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in his address to the heads of the EAEU states which was published on the website of the Eurasian Economic Commission. “In order to achieve this goal, we need to create joint ventures in the industrial production, agricultural and services sectors”. Also, the Eurasian Development Bank should play a more active role in the integration processes, he added. All trade barriers in the Eurasian Economic Union should be eliminated. “The top priority is, of course, to eliminate all existing trade barriers between our countries. The businesses are expected the governments and the Eurasian Economic Commission to take decisive actions,” Tokayev's words published on the website of the Eurasian Economic Commission. "It is important to boost and systematize our efforts aimed at building a dialogue in the EAEU-EU format. Cooperation with the European Commission and other bodies of the European Union should be on equal, mutually beneficial and pragmatic terms. A similar systematic dialogue should be established with the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN)”. Tokayev called for adopting an effective strategy for liaison with the new trad.organization, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, the global market share of which is about 30%. Digitalization should be a driving force for economic development in the EAEU, the Kazakh president emphasized. “In the first place, the use of the state-of-the-art IT solutions should be expanded in customs regulation, tax administration, veterinary control and other areas that directly affect the free movement of goods and services,” he said. The Eurasian transit route should become more attractive and competitive in the global trade. “It very important to maximize the use of the transboundary transport arteries and logistics hubs. An effective cooperation in this area could play a decisive role in expanding trading and economic cooperation and building confidence in all Eurasian continent,” In this connection, Kazakhstan proposes boosting cooperation in joint projects in order to link the Eurasian integration processes and the One Belt One Road initiative, Tokayev said. “Implementation of projects that would link the goods movement systems of the EAEU states, including through the creation of Eurasian wholesale and logistic complexes, will help increase the overall efficiency of the EAEU transport corridors both for the business entities operating in the EAEU states and foreign partners,” the Kazakh president said. Tokayev called for a wide use of the Khorgos Center on the Kazakh-Chinese border and the emerging International Center of Trade and Economic Cooperation Central Asia on the Kazakh-Uzbek border in the interests of all states participating in the EAEU.
