Russia becomes first country to register a coronavirus vaccine

Speaking at a government meeting on Tuesday, Putin said that the vaccine has proven efficient during tests, offering a lasting immunity from the coronavirus.

The move comes despite many scientists in Russia and abroad questioning the decision to make the vaccine available for use before Phase 3 trials, which normally last for months and involve thousands of people.

The Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the vaccine is expected to provide immunity from the coronavirus for up to two years.

The announcement of the President of Russia about the registration of the world's first vaccine led to  the main US stock increase.

One of the main indicators of the American market - the S & P 500 - 11 rose by 0.2 percent to 3377.13 points on August. It is one percent away from the record value reached in February. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.1 percent and the NASDAQ tech index rose 0.7 percent.

Analysts cite Putin's statement as the main reason for the growth.
