Prime Minister of Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held talks with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov during a visit to Ashgabat.
The parties noted the high dynamics of development and the great potential for further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the economic sphere.
"Special attention is paid to the prospects for developing cross-border cooperation between the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan and the Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan, including by creating a special border trade zone on the border of the two countries", the press service of the Head of Government reported.
Despite the quarantine measures and the current situation in the world, the level of trade between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan has maintained a steady growth - the trade turnover in January-July 2020 increased by 10% to about $100 million. The volume of railway cargo transit through the territory of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan increased by 55% in January-August.
