UN sanctions against Iran restored
21.09.2020
The US authorities have reinstated UN sanctions against Iran and are ready to take action against countries that do not do the same, said the Head of the State Department, Mike Pompeo.
"The US expects all UN members to fully comply with their responsibilities and implement these measures," he said in a statement. The sanctions include such measures as: an arms embargo, a ban on the enrichment and processing of nuclear materials in Iran. It is prohibited to test and deploy ballistic missiles on Iranian territory, transfer nuclear and other technologies to Iran for their creation. The Head of the State Department warns that "if UN members do not fulfill their obligations to implement these sanctions, the United States is ready to use our national authorities to ensure that such actions do not remain without consequences". It is reported that in the coming days, the United States will announce a number of additional measures aimed at ensuring compliance with UN sanctions. The media note that a lot of countries are not going to restore sanctions against Iran now, and therefore the question arises whether they will be punished for this by the United States.
