On May 18, 2021, the Interdepartmental Commission on Minors' Affairs and Protection of their Rights under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has discussed the progress of work on the development of a methodology for assessing the well-being of children in Kazakhstan.
The meeting chaired by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Aimagambetov was attended by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova, the Commissioner for the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Kazakhstan Aruzhan Sain, members of the Interdepartmental Commission on Minors' Affairs and Protection of Their Rights, heads of central state and local executive bodies, NGO representatives and others.
The participants in the discussion have reviewed the implementation of the instructions of the President of the country K. Tokayev on the development of methods for assessing the well-being of children and the children's budget.
Dulat Zhekebaev, Deputy Committee for the Protection of Children's Rights of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about the progress of work in this direction, including the course of public discussions. He mentioned state and local executive bodies, experts who are actively involved in the project. He also noted the work of the main partners, in particular the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Economic Research Institute. Khambar Bakytgul, Director of the Secretariat for Sustainable Development Goals, took part in the meeting as a representative of the Economic Research Institute. She has acquainted the participants with the draft methodology for assessing the well-being of children in Kazakhstan and the main approaches used in its development. Askhat Aimagambetov accentuated that all work on the development of the methodology should be completed by June of this year. “Now the Economic Research Institute and the UNICEF, together with NGOs and other colleagues, have implemented a draft methodology for assessing the well-being of children, which needs to be discussed and supplemented, since its implementation will be carried out by the local executive bodies,” the Minister added.
