On May 18, 2021, the OECD webinar on "Creating an effective system for managing support for the sugar industry" was held with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Economic Research Institute JSC. This event is part of a series of webinars on strengthening and developing capacity in the field of competitiveness of the agri-food sector in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The webinar was dedicated to the assessment of the current state of sugar beet farming and the formation of recommendations on the main political and economic measures that contribute to improving the competitiveness of the agri-food sector. The main purpose of the webinar was t.organize the exchange of experience through parity interaction between OECD experts and politicians and managers of the agricultural processing industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Opening the webinar, OECD economic analyst Patrick Shatne presented an overview of the European experience in terms of political and economic instruments for the development of effective public-private partnerships in the sugar beet industry.
The webinar reviewed:
1) ways to develop a strategic approach to state support for the development of the industry. 2) ways of optima.organization of production relations between agricultural producers and processing enterprises. 3) the experience of the European Union countries regarding state support for the development of the sugar beet industry. The maximum reduction in sugar beet imports, food security and investment attractiveness in this industry are priorities. The State Program for the Development of the Agro-industrial Complex for 2017-2021 covers the sugar beet industry.
Kazakhstani sugar production specialists and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who participated in the webinar, got acquainted with the analysis of current trends in the field of sugar production and studied the experience in the formation of an effective system for managing support for the sugar industry.

The aim of the OECD is to implement a coordinated policy aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth and improving the living standards of its member countries. 37 countries are members of the OECD.
