Children's Well-Being is the Key to the Country's Prosperity

On June 25, 2021, at 15:00, the round table will be held on the topic: "Children's Well-Being is the Key to the Country's Prosperity".organized by Economic Research Institute JSC (ERI). The event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence and to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of ERI.

The purpose of the round table is to promote the improvement of the children's well-being in the country.

The objectives of the event are:

• impact assessment of the quality of children's life on the socio-economic stability of the country;
  
  
• exchange of experience and opinions with international experts on monitoring tools and policies for child welfare.
  
  
• discussion of current progress, current activities, and tools for children's well-being assessment.

The round table will be held in the online format at the Zoom platform.

Representatives of central and local state bodies, non-governmenta.organizations of Kazakhstan, foreign experts will take part in the discussion.

The level of children's well-being is one of the main indicators of the country sustainability in many developed countries.

Key international researches define the children's well-being as a multidimensional concept that includes physical and psychological health of children and ensuring their healthy lifestyle, education, employment, income and socio-economic status, security, life satisfaction and other aspects.

It is impossible to develop effective strategies for children without convincing and comprehensive data on their well-being. That is why many countries around the world are developing special methods to assess children's well-being.

Thus, at the fourth meeting of the National Council of Public Trust under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to develop and implement a national monitoring mechanism – Children's Welfare Index in Kazakhstan starting from 2022.

In advance of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, the discussion of the children's welfare is very important, because children are the future of our country. Economic Research Institute JSC with its 60-year history could not stand aside in the implementation of such an important policy.

Economic Research Institute under the Ministry of National Economy works with the Committee for the Protection of Children’s Rights of the Ministry of Education and Science to develop a draft methodology for calculating the Kazakhstan children's welfare index. The United Nations Children's Fund in the Republic of Kazakhstan (UNICEF) provides technical support to the project.
