Kazakhstan moved up to 32 rank in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2021

The country has improved its position on two factor rankings - Technology and Future Readiness.

Today, on September 29, the Center for Global Competitiveness of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland) announced the results of the 2021 Digital Competitiveness Ranking.

The IMD Digital Competitiveness Ranking is the result of a study that assesses the extent to which countries are learning and adopting digital technologies leading to the transformation of public policy, business models and society as a whole.

The ranking consists of three factors:

Factor 1. "Knowledge" - reflects the intangible infrastructure necessary for the technology study and discovery.

Factor 2. "Technology" quantifies the level of the digital technology development.

Factor 3. "Future Readiness" assesses the level and readiness of the economy for digital transformation.

Each Factor includes three Sub-Factors.

In 2021, the study assessed 64 countries around the world. The United States tops the global digital competitiveness rankings for 4 consecutive years. The top 5 countries also include Hong Kong, Sweden, Denmark and Singapore.

According to the results of this year's research, Kazakhstan took 32nd place, improved by 4 points, compared with the ranking of 2020 (36th).

Kazakhstan is ahead of such countries as the Czech Republic (33rd), Portugal (34th), Slovenia (35th), Saudi Arabia (36th), Latvia (37th), Italy (40th), Poland (41st), Russia (42nd), Turkey (48th), Ukraine (54th).

This year, Kazakhstan has improved its position on two factor rankings - Technology and Future Readiness.

Kazakhstan has shown a stable improvement of its positions for the Future Readiness Factor in recent years. In the 2021 ranking, the country improved its performance by five points to 28th place . This greatly influenced the final ranking.

The improvement is explained by an increase in positions in all three Sub-Factors: Adaptive Attitudes - 32nd (+1), Business Agility - 6th (+7), IT Integration - 44th (+2).

In terms of indicators, significant increases are noted in the Internet Trade statistical indicator (53 up to 49) and in the survey indicators: Attitude to Globalization (35 up to 27), Opportunities and Threats (41 up to 27), Flexibility of Companies (41 up to 30) and Use of Big Data (13 up to 6).

Kazakhstan has improved its positions for the Technology Factor by 1 and ranked 40th. The improvement is explained by an increase in positions in all three Sub-Factors: Regulatory Framework - 22nd (+1), Capital - 51st (+4 ), Technological Framework - 47th (+1).
