Workshops on SDGs localization

25.02.2022

On February 24, employees of the SDG Secretariat at Economic Research Institute (ERI) held a series of workshops on localizing the Sustainable Development Goals to coincide with World NGO Day (February 27).

The events were held at two venues in Nur-Sultan:

1. The Civil Alliance of Kazakhstan hosted a national training workshop on "Communication between the civil sector and government agencies in the New Kazakhstan" where Bakhytgul Khambar, the Director of the SDG Secretariat, spoke about the prospects of localizing the SDGs in Kazakhstan.

Her report included information on the government's institutional efforts regarding the SDGs and the practical tools used to localize the SDGs at the local level.

2. The KAMEDA Public Fund (Centre for Civic Initiatives in Nur-Sultan) hosted a
workshop and business game entitled Mission 2030, aimed at identifying urgent problems in the regions, as well as finding sustainable solutions and developing proactive measures for the SDGs implementation.

As previous experience shows, Mission 2030 is an effective tool in the process of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The business game was followed by a detailed discussion on the results of the training on localizing the SDGs.

The game results will be taken into account in the further SDG implementation stage in Kazakhstan and presented in the section of the second Voluntary National Review of Kazakhstan on Sustainable Development (VNR) - Sustainable Development Goals through the Eyes of the People of Kazakhstan.
