2022 High-level Political Forum

On July 5, the 2022 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) began its work in New York.

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is an annual intergovernmental forum where countries review and report on progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

The 2022 HLPF will be held from July 5 to July 15 under the motto "Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".


From July 13 to 15, a three-day ministerial segment of the HLPF will be held with the presentation of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the SDGs. 44 countries will present the VNR on their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 

The Voluntary National Review (VNR) is a document that provides an analysis of achievements and identifies challenges in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

Kazakhstan will present the second Voluntary National Review at the 2022 High-Level Political Forum.

 

The Kazakhstan National Voluntary Review on the SDGs was prepared by the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with Economic Research Institute JSC and with the support of the United Nations Joint Fund for the SDGs.

 

To prepare the VNR, the UN annually recommends five priority goals to countries. This year they include:

– SDG 4: Quality education;

– SDG 5: Gender equality;

– SDG 14: Life below water;

– SDG 15: Life on land;

– SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.

 

In the second review, Kazakhstan additionally focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals selected by representatives of local executive bodies, NGO representatives, experts, citizens and all stakeholders attracted during field events throughout the country.

 

Among them:

 

– SDG 1: No poverty;

– SDG 3: Good health and well-being;

– SDG 4: Quality education;

– SDG 5: Gender equality;

– SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation;

– SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth.



For reference: On September 25, 2015, at the UN headquarters in New York, world leaders, including heads of state and government, adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at eliminating poverty, combating inequality and injustice, as well as to solve problems related to climate change.On July 6, 2019, in New York, within the framework of the High-level Political Forum on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Kazakhstan presented the first Voluntary National Review of Kazakhstan.
