ERI experts and deputies of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan will continue cooperation on low-carbon development

On November 4, at a bilateral meeting, the Institute was represented by Kuanysh Beisengazin, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Economic Research Institute JSC, and Baltabay Syzdykov, Deputy Director of the ESG Expertise Center. Member of the Committee on Ecology and Nature Management Yeldos Abakanov and Secretary of the Committee on Ecology and Nature Management Salimzhan Nakpayev took part from the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The experts discussed the main approaches and vision of the draft Strategy for achieving Carbon Neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060. In particular, the discussion touched upon sectoral approaches to low-carbon development, namely the energy sector, industrial processes, agriculture and forestry, as well as the waste management sector. The issues of building an effective system of carbon regulation, the components of which are the System of trading quotas for greenhouse gas emissions, green procurement, environmental labeling and others, were considered in detail. Following the meeting, both sides agreed on the need to further promote the climate agenda in Kazakhstan and cooperation between the Economic Research Institute JSC and the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on low-carbon development. It should be noted that the Economic Research Institute JSC continues to finalize the draft Strategy for achieving Carbon Neutrality, involving all interested stakeholders in the dialogue – the state, business, associations and internationa.organizations. The success of achieving this goal directly depends on joint and fruitful work. It should be remembered that ecology has no borders, and its preservation is a common cause.
