The Head of the State instructed the Government together with business entities to start development of a brand new National Project of Agricultural Development for five years, the main tasks of which will be self-sufficiency in socially significant food products; steady increase of the incomes of millions of rural residents; 2.5-fold increase of labour productivity; twofold increase in exports of agricultural products.

Implementation of the initiatives announced in the Address will lead to sustainable development of the agricultural sector, which will provide the population with domestic agricultural products in the long term. Self-sufficiency in food products is an important factor in the country's food security.

Global Food Security Index was developed by the experts from EconomistIntelligenceUnit to assess the level of food security on a global scale; Kazakhstan ranks 48th among the 113 countries reviewed by the end of 2019.

At that, implementation of state programs in the agricultural sector is already yielding some results. Thus, thanks to state support, in 2019 there is an increase in red-meat production by 5.8%, poultry meat by 15.8%, milk processing by 7%, and meat processing by 8%. There is also an increase in the workload of dairy plants by 18% and meat processing plants by 21.6%. At the end of 2019, agricultural exports increased by 6.4%. Consequently, all implemented state support measures have a positive effect on the development of the industry and growth of agricultural production. However, there are problems in agriculture and agribusiness, which were announced by the President in his Address.

Thus, all measures announced by the President will serve the development of the agro-industrial complex as one of the drivers of economic growth.
