"Green Growth" in Kazakhstan

On September 23, at 11:00a.m., an online conference on Sustainable Development Goals "Green Growth" in Kazakhstan: Greening the Economy" will be held.

"In the medium term, economic growth should become more and more "green". Therefore, the foundation for deep decarbonization should be laid right now. I instruct the Government to develop a package of proposals for "green growth" in cooperation with the scientific community and private sector».

The World Meteorological Organization's report on the state of climate for the period from 2015 to 2019 noted that countries are not meeting their obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This suggests that climate change is happening much faster than scientists expected.

Kazakhstan ranks fourth in the ranking of countries by the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions.

The main sources of pollutants released into the air in our country are large industrial facilities, vehicles and heating sources of private residential buildings in localities.

In just one year, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere amounted to 229 million tons.

Economic Research Institute JSC is the Secretariat of the Coordinating Council for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and invites leading industry experts to discuss environmental issues and the green economy in the framework of the "Planet" SDG Working Group.

Among the speakers therer are representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, UNDP, Economic Research Institute,  TALAP Center of Applied Research and Association of Ecological Organizations of Kazakhstan ALE, Green Academy Scientific Research and Education Center, Expo&Women, as well as a number of other NGOs and experts.
