Low-Carbon Development Strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Economic Research Institute JSC invites leading industry experts to discuss environmental issues and green economy. ⠀ Zulfiya Suleimenova, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Policy and Green Technologies of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, will talk about approaches to developing a Low-Carbon Development Strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to experts, greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 will decrease by about 6% due to travel bans and slowdown in economic growth as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However this improvement is only temporary - climate change is happening much faster than scientists expected. It is expected that once the global economy begins to recover from the pandemic, emissions will return to higher levels ... ⠀ Carbon-free energy sources are becoming a necessity. ⠀ Most prosperous countries is already working to create a green economy. In 2020, the share of renewable energy in the EU will be 20%. Kazakhstan is also aimed at creating an environmentally-oriented industry. ⠀ The environmental measures outlined by the President are related to the implementation of the Global Sustainable Development Goals to combat climate change and preserve ecosystems.
