A Civil Forum was held today in Konaev, Almaty region, featuring a presentation by Alibek Raipov, Director of the World Economy Research Center at the Economic Research Institute. In his address, Raipov presented information on the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, which serve as a tool for civil society to influence business practices.
Raypov specifically
highlighted the crucial role of the
National Contact Point (NCP).
This body functions as a mediator, assisting companies and citizens
find solutions when they believe a business practices has violated
the OECD principles. He noted that the NCP is a dialogue platform
where issues can be resolved without resorting to litigation.
Concluding his address,
Raipov highlighted that the NCP is a collegial body, comprising
representatives from a variou.organizations, including the Economic
Research Institute, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of
Kazakhstan “Atameken,” the Court of the Astana International
Financial Centre, the Civil Alliance of Kazakhstan, and the Legal
Policy Research Center. He encouraged civil society to actively use
this mechanism for constructive dialogue with the business community.
Forum participants
underlined that the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and
the work of the National Contact Point open up new opportunities for
developing more responsible and transparent business environment in
Kazakhstan. They emphasized that only through a partnership between
the state, business, and civil society can a sustainable system of
interaction be built, where economic interests are aligned with
social and ethical principles.
