On October 15–16 of this year, the city of Fergana hosted the inaugural session of the Fergana Peace Forum titled «Fergana Valley: Uniting Efforts for Peace and Progress», with the participation of experts from leading Think Tanks across Central Asian countries, including the Economic Research Institute (ERI).

During the session «Fergana Valley – A Space of New Economic Opportunities», a report was presented by Kaisar Nigmetov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Economic Research Institute.

In his speech, Kaisar Nigmetov emphasized that the development of the Fergana Valley has a significant impact on the economic dynamics and social stability of the entire Central Asian region.

The Fergana Valley holds vast potential for regional cooperation. The economies of the three countries sharing the valley Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan possess a high degree of complementarity, creating a solid foundation for deepening production and trade cooperation.

The Fergana Valley has considerable potential in the agro-industrial sector and agricultural processing. This, in turn, opens new opportunities for Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries to expand agro-industrial cooperation through the establishment of joint production of agricultural and food products.

The development of the Fergana Valley is closely linked to broader regional initiatives aimed at shaping a new architecture of economic interaction in Central Asia.

Particular importance is attached to projects such as the establishment of the International Center for Industrial Cooperation «Central Asia» on the Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border, and the International Transport and Logistics Center «Alatau» on the Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan border.

One of the key areas of regional cooperation remains the strengthening of water and energy collaboration within the Fergana Valley and among Central Asian countries as a whole, ensuring a balance between economic interests, food security, and the preservation of the region’s ecosystems.

In conclusion, Mr. Nigmetov noted that the dynamic development of the Fergana Valley could create a synergistic effect, enhancing intra-regional ties, fostering economic growth and social stability, and contributing to the transformation of Central Asia into a connected and self-sustaining region.
