Employees of the Economic Research Institute participated in a training on greenhouse gas emissions forecasting

From April 6 to 10, 2026, employees of the Climate Change Center (Kashkinbekova G., Baktiyarkyzy A.) and the Center for Macroeconomic Research and Forecasting (Ospanov A.) of the Economic Research Institute took part in the training workshop titled “Development of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Projections under the Enhanced Transparency Framework: Methodology, Sectoral Approaches, and Modeling Tools.”


The training was opened by Rustam Kabzhanov, Director General of the Kazakhstan Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives “ECOJER”.
The event was moderated by Syrym Nurgaliyev, Project Manager at the ECOJER Association.

The training was delivered by Olga Gavrilova, international expert and methodology coordinator, and Aimgul Kerimray, researcher at the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (energy sector).

During the training, participants explored the development of greenhouse gas emissions projections in line with the requirements of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, including methodological approaches, sector-specific features, and hands-on work with the LEAP model.

Participants covered key aspects of projection development, including scenario building, accounting for implemented policies and measures, ensuring data quality, and applying modeling tools across various sectors of the economy.
