05.06.2026
![]() A scientific seminar was held at JSC Economic Research Institute to discuss the preliminary findings of a study examining the impact of trade policy on business development and the resilience of international supply chains. The seminar was delivered by Aigerim Yergabulova, Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Business of Nazarbayev University and holder of a Ph.D. from KU Leuven (Belgium). During the seminar, the speaker presented interim results of a research project focused on the effects of trade liberalization on Kazakhstani firms. Particular attention was given to the consequences of Kazakhstan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2015, changes in firms’ supply structures, and the impact of various global shocks. Drawing on firm-level data, the study examined issues related to improvements in the quality of imported inputs, the transformation of supplier networks, and the risks arising from supply chain concentration and dependence on specific transit routes. Participants discussed the impact of global economic changes on business competitiveness, the resilience of production processes, and prospects for further diversification of Kazakhstan’s external economic relations. The seminar also provided a platform for the exchange of scientific and methodological experience, as well as for discussions on current issues in international trade and business adaptation to ongoing global economic transformations. This seminar was the second event in the Economic Research Institute’s series of scientific seminars. The first seminar was held in April 2026 and focused on “Methodology and Design of Quasi-Experimental Research.” The speaker was Alisher Aldashev, Ph.D. in Economics and Professor at the International School of Economics of KBTU. Such scientific seminars play an important role in strengthening the Institute’s research capacity. They enable researchers to become familiar with advanced international approaches and modern research methods, while also learning how to apply them in practice. This format contributes to improving the quality of analytical and scientific research, enhancing professional competencies, and promoting the adoption of best research practices. The Economic Research Institute intends to continue developing this initiative by regularl.organizing scientific seminars and expert discussions aimed at strengthening research expertise and applying modern analytical tools in the preparation of analytical and scientific outputs. ![]()
