The OECD has published “Due diligence essentials for responsible construction”, a sector-focused publication examining risk-based due diligence in the construction sector.
The
publication covers three interconnected subsectors: real estate,
construction materials and construction. It examines key
environmental, social and governance risks and impacts, including
environmental damage, labour rights violations, occupational health
and safety risks, exploitation of migrant workers and corruption.
Particular
attention is given to the challenges of implementing due diligence in
fragmented supply chains involving extensive subcontracting and
intermediaries. The publication also explores opportunities offered
by technological tools, industry initiatives, certification schemes
and approaches to resource circularity.
The
publication is intended for companies operating both within and
outside the construction sector, policymakers and other stakeholders.
