On October 1, 2020, the International Institute for Management and Development (IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland) announced the results of the Annual Digital Competitiveness Ranking.
The leading countries in the Ranking 2020 are the United States (1st place), Singapore (2nd place), and Denmark (3rd place). The top 10 countries also include: Sweden (4th place), Hong Kong (5th place), Switzerland (6th place), the Netherlands (7th place), Korea (8th place), Norway (9th place), and Finland (10th place). Colombia (61st place), Mongolia (62nd place) and Venezuela (63rd place) are closing the list. A total of 63 countries participate in the ranking. Kazakhstan took the 36th place, showing a decrease of 1 position compared to the last year.
The Digital Competitiveness Ranking assesses the potential and willingness to implement and explore digital technologies for economic and social transformation.
The ranking is based on 3 pillars:
- "Knowledge" reflects the intangible infrastructure necessary for the study and discovery of technologies
- "Technologies" quantifies the level of digital technology development
- "Future Readiness" assesses the level and readiness of the economy for digital transformation
The study shows that this year's trends follow past observations: the role of knowledge generation and talent development, combined with effective regulation and infrastructure, continue to contribute to digital competitiveness. Moreover, the flexibility and adaptability of not only businesses, but also individuals, is necessary to maintain the country's digital progress. The global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has had a strong impact on all aspects of life, and technology has proven to be an important tool in the fight against the pandemic.
In the study 2020, the world's leading economies are focused on creating a talent pool, that serves to develop and strengthen the knowledge infrastructure necessary for the development and use of digital technologies. In addition, there is a need to provide an effective legal framework that allows the technology development and implementation.
