NCC and American Bar Association

On May 5, the Kazakhstan office of the National Contact Center (NCC) of the Institute for Economic Research JSC held a meeting with the American Bar Association (ABA)

Participants learned about the main activities of the NCC and certain areas of work of the American Bar Association.

The Rule of Law in Kazakhstan Program (2020-2025), implemented by the Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), supports improvement of the investment and business climate, the legal environment for civil societ.organizations, and aims to modernize the judicial system and eliminate existing and perceived bias to enhance judicial independence and professionalism. The program builds on a 30-year partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States to modernize the judicial system, aimed at increasing public confidence in the courts and implementing judicial reforms.

At the end of the meeting, the parties decided to continue discussing possible cooperation between the ABA and NCC.

The American Bar Association is the national association of lawyers in the United States. Despite its name, it admits not only American lawyers to its membership but also lawyers from other countries of the world and is one of the largest associations in the world. At present ABA has over 400 thousand members. The vast majority of ABA individual members are lawyers. In addition to them, individual members can be lawyers of state agencies, lawyers-scientists, law students. About 35 specialized professiona.organizations of lawyers participate in ABA activities as collective members.


The NCC is a collegial advisory body that makes decisions on appeals concerning violations of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, including issues of information disclosure, human rights, labor and industrial relations, combating bribery, bribery and extortion, environmental protection, consumer interests, science and technology, competition and taxation.

The functions of the NCC Secretariat in Kazakhstan are performed by the Economic Research Institute JSC.
