The Anniversary Conference of the National Contact Center of Kazakhstan began its work at the Economic Research Institute

22.11.2022

The event is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of NCC in RK.

Alibek Kuantyrov, Minister of National Economy of RK:

«Kazakhstan is the only country that has implemented and actively participates in the process of application and dissemination of responsible business standards in Central Asia.

The country has created the most comfortable conditions for doing business. Entrepreneurs must comply with reciprocal obligations to safeguard the rights and interests of their employees. And this is where NCC plays a big role with the possibility of resolving disputes between employees and businesses through mediation.

We should also note the establishment of cooperation with other NCCs for sharing experiences and learning together. In seeking answers to challenges we appreciate experience of our colleagues from other countries. An effective and popular mechanism of NCC activity is an important element of open international investment climate».

William Thompson, Head of OECD Eurasia:

«These are the platforms where human rights, consumer rights, and environmental issues are discussed. NCC is a mechanism that reflects a fairly wide range of issues. Reading the Roadmap, I realized that you have ambitious plans for the development of NCC institution, which makes me very happy. In 2023, Kazakhstan’s NCC will be evaluated as part of the OECD Responsible Business Conduct Working Group.».

Ruslan Sultanov, Chief Executive Officer of Economic Research Institute (ERI):

«ERI has been the Secretariat of the National Contact Center in Kazakhstan since 2020. Over these 2 years, together with the MNE, we have done a lot of work to build a new structure of NCC and to promote the OECD Guidelines in society by setting up a dialogue with the business community, civil society, and scientifi.organizations.

In honor of the 10th anniversary the monograph “NCC of Kazakhstan: Experience and Prospects of Development” was prepared based on the study and justification of the need for effective conciliation and mediation platforms in the context of globalization and integration of economic systems. The work is based on a scientific approach and will evaluate what has already been done and develop new steps for the further development of this mechanism.».

Please note that NCC considers violations in 11 areas of the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business for Multinational Enterprises, such as information disclosure, human rights, labor and industrial relations, the environment, anti-bribery and others.

The successful practice of OECD countries to use NCC as a mechanism for extrajudicial resolution of conflicts and disputes between business and trade unions, through mediation and conciliation procedures on NCC platform will allow finding an optimal and rational solution in today’s conditions to disseminate the principles of responsible business.
