NCP and Coca-Cola Kazakhstan. Dialogues on the Sustainable Development Goals

On February 8, 2023, on behalf of the Kazakhstan office of the National Contact Point (hereinafter - NCP), I.Zh. Beisekeyeva, an employee of the Kazakhstan NCP Secretariat, participated in a workshop on stakeholder dialogue on Coca-Cola Icecek Kazakhstan's (hereinafter - Coca-Cola) sustainability commitments for the period up to 2030.

In 2022, Coca-Cola announced its 2030 commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the following areas: product packaging, water and climate change, human rights, diversity and inclusion.

The company's main sustainability goal is to ensure the long-term viability of the business by being proactive and innovative in environmental protection, as well as being recognized by all stakeholders as one of the most responsible businesses.

The seminar also presented long-term social projects implemented by Coca-Cola in Kazakhstan, such as "Coca Cola Belesteri" ("Steps of Growth"), "3.2.1.Start!", "Coca Cola Leather Ball".

In turn, I.Zh. Beisekeeva presented the activities of the NCP and the directions of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, noted the steps taken by Coca-Cola in the field of sustainable development, and also emphasized that Coca-Cola can be recommended as one of the exemplary multinational enterprises operating in Kazakhstan.

In the final part of the seminar, participants were invited to share and discuss additional ideas that Coca-Cola can implement further as part of its 2030 commitments.

The National Contact Point is a collegial advisory body that decides on pending allegations of violations of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, including in the areas of information disclosure, human rights, labour and industrial relations, anti-bribery, bribery and extortion, environment, consumer interests, science and technology, competition and taxation.

Coca-Cola began its operations in Kazakhstan in 1994, when it was officially registered in the country as one of the first foreign investors. During its operations in Kazakhstan, Coca-Cola has invested more than USD 500 million in the country and created around 8,000 direct and indirect jobs in its supply, production and distribution chain.
