On September 19, a seminar titled “OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct: A Tool for Protecting Rights and Reducing Reputational Risks for Companies” was held at Narxoz University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event wa.organized by the World Economy Research Center of the Economic Research Institute, bringing together students and faculty from law, economics, and humanities.
The seminar featured
presentations by Alibek
Raipov,
Director of the World Economy Research Center, and Zhanar
Tulegenova,
Deputy Director of the Center and Head of the Secretariat of
the National
Contact Point (NCP).
They emphasized the importance of corporate
social responsibility (CSR) and
explained how the OECD
Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises support
companies in operating more transparently and responsibly.
Participants were introduced
to the structure and role of the National
Contact Point as
a platform for dispute resolution. Law students explored
the complaint
submission procedure,
while economics and management students learned how such complaints
can affect a company’s reputation
and financial risks.
A real-life case study illustrated how the OECD Guidelines are
applied in practice, which sparked particular interest among
attendees.
The event concluded with a
lively discussion and Q&A session, during which students received
detailed answers to their questions. To measure effectiveness, a pre-
and post-event survey was
conducted, confirming a significant increase in participants’
knowledge levels. Students reported a clearer understanding of what
the NCP is and how it operates.
The results highlighted the
strong demand for such educational initiatives and their
effectiveness in strengthening professional competencies. The seminar
not only enhanced students’ practical skills but also deepened
their understanding of the importance of responsible
business conduct as
a key element of today’s global business environment.
