Mediation as a Tool for Dialogue: The Experience of the OECD National Contact Point in Kazakhstan

The Secretariat of the National Contact Point (NCP) of Kazakhstan participated in the annual online meeting of the Informal Steering Group on SME and Entrepreneurship Financing with country experts. The event, held in an online format, wa.organized by the Secretariat of the OECD Committee on SMEs and Entrepreneurship (CSMEE) to discuss current trends, policies, and instruments aimed at expanding access of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to financial resources.

On September 19, a seminar titled “OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct: A Tool for Protecting Rights and Reducing Reputational Risks for Companies” was held at Narxoz University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event wa.organized by the World Economy Research Center of the Economic Research Institute, bringing together students and faculty from law, economics, and humanities.

A New Stage of Cooperation: The National Contact Point and the Federation of Trade Unions Join Efforts to Protect Workers’ Rights
On July 30, 2025, the Secretariat of Kazakhstan’s National Contact Point (NCP) and the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (FTURK) held a meeting to define new horizons of cooperation. Their shared goal is to strengthen the protection of workers’ social and labor rights based on international standards set out in the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

On June 18–19, 2025, representatives of the Economic Research Institute, who form part of the Secretariat of Kazakhstan’s National Contact Point (hereinafter – NCP), took part in the Global Virtual Meeting of NCP.organized by the OECD Secretariat on Responsible Business Conduct (hereinafter – RBC). The event was attended by Christine Kaufmann, Chair of the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct (hereinafter – WPRBC), as well as representatives of the WPRBC and NCPs from adhering countries.

Responsible Business Conduct in Infrastructure Development in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia
On April 2, 2025, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) held a webinar dedicated to the importance of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) in the context of sustainable infrastructure development. On March 6, 2025, a seminar jointl.organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) was held to present the key findings and recommendations of their joint report “The Role of Traceability in Critical Mineral Supply Chains.” The Secretariat of Kazakhstan’s National Contact Point (NCP) participated in the event. During the seminar, OECD and IEA representatives discussed major challenges and prospects for ensuring transparency and sustainability in the supply of strategically important resources, as outlined in the report.
