ERI Webinar on the issues of OECD and NCP

ERI Experts told employees of Kazstandart about Kazakhstan's cooperation with the OECD and the activities of the NCP Issues considered included EAEU-OECD cooperation and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Companies Today, experts of Economic Research Institute JSC (ERI) held an information and advisory webinar on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (hereinafter-the OECD) and the National Contact Point of Kazakhstan (hereinafter — the NCP) for the RSE "Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology". The online conference was attended by 37 representatives of the Republican State Enterprise "Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology", including the management and expert staff, as well as representatives of territoria.organizations. Within the framework of this online meeting, both historical aspects of the interaction of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the OECD, as well as current and future aspects of cooperation were highlighted. Alibek Raipov, a leading expert of the ERI Center for World Economy Studies, spoke about the cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the OECD, which aroused great interest among the conference participants. In his speech, the Expert noted the high practical significance of Kazakhstan's cooperation with the OECD. At the same time, the spheres of Kazakhstan's participation in the working bodies of the OECD, as well as participation in the existing legal instruments of th.organization, were considered. The Speaker analyzed the Principles of Good Laboratory Practice of the OECD, the purpose of which is to promote the application of the principle of assessing the quality of data obtained as a result of tests. At the end of his speech, Alibek Raipov familiarized the participants with the quality standards of fruits, vegetables, seeds, forest products and tractors for the development of OECD trade.
A special attention of the participants was attracted by the speech of the senior expert of the Center for World Economy Studies – an employee of the NCP Secretariat Ruslan Karbenov, dedicated to the fulfillment of the international obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the Declaration on International Investment and Multilateral Enterprises, which establishes the obligation to establish and develop the NCP. In addition, the risks of non-compliance with the conclusions of the NCP were highlighted, as well as consideration of the reputational risks of multinational enterprises that violate or do not comply with the provisions of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Companies.
Using the example of violation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Companies, the participants analyzed the standards of responsible business conduct in the areas of human rights and consumer protection. OECD is an international economi.organization of developed countries, established in 1948 and recognizing the principles of representative democracy and free market economy. The goal of the OECD is to implement coordinated policies aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth and improving the living standards of its member states. 38 countries are members of the OECD. Kazakhstan has been cooperating with the OECD since 2008.
