ERI signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the International Arbitration Center

On November 17, 2022, the memorandum of cooperation was signed by Ruslan Sultanov, Chairman of the Board of the Economic Research Institute (ERI) JSC, representing the Secretariat of the National Contact Center (NCC), with Christopher Campbell-Holt, Registrar and Chief of Staff of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) and the International Arbitration Center (IAC). ERI and IAC plan to further develop and strengthen their cooperation in promoting alternative dispute and conflict resolution methods and mechanisms, including the development of mediation and arbitration in Kazakhstan. In addition, the memorandum promotes and popularises responsible business standards for multinational enterprises. Joint activities are expected to focus on developing mechanisms to address whistleblower complaints of alleged violations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Practices. Informing the public and business community in Kazakhstan about alternative methods and mechanisms for dispute and conflict resolution is key to increasing engagement. In this case, the interest of the parties will make it possible to discuss emerging problems and solutions through th.organisation of meetings, consultations, workshops, conferences and roundtables. For reference: The International Arbitration Centre (IAC) provides an independent, cost-effective and expeditious alternative to court proceedings, acting in accordance with best international standards for resolving civil and commercial disputes at the AIFC. The NCC is a collegial advisory body that decides on pending applications alleging breaches of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, including disclosure, human rights, labour and industrial relations, anti-bribery, bribery and extortion, environmental protection, consumer interests, science and technology, competition and taxation.
