A meeting of the NCP network on Responsible Business was held in Paris

On 20-21 June 2023, a meeting of the network of National Contact Points (hereinafter referred to as NCPs) for Responsible Business Conduct (hereinafter referred to as RBCs) was held in Paris, France, chaired by Christine Kaufman and attended by representatives of BIAC, TUAC and OECD Watch. The staff of the Secretariat of the Kazakhstan NCP (represented by the Economic Research Institute JSC (ERI) participated in the online format. On the agenda was the achievement of the third objective of the Action Plan for Strengthening the NCP's RBC issues - "Ensuring effective and efficient case solutions" (2022-2024). The NCP Secretariat highlighted key areas for further work and long-term goals, such as: • Determining functional equivalence using basic performance criteria; • Human and financial resources; • Stakeholder confidence; • Mechanism to address situations of non-functioning NCPs; • Mandatory periodic peer reviews. The importance of improving problem-solving at the good offices stage for NCPs was noted, including supporting analyses, findings, definitions and recommendations in outcome statements. Country NCPs shared their experiences and provided comments on the draft Guidelines. As part of the training for NCPs, the Secretariat, in collaboration with NCPs, has developed an online tool to be used for onboarding new NCP officials and as a repository of mandate information. In addition, there was a presentation by the PeaceNexus Foundation and the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO), which included suggestions for sharing experiences and joint fact-finding lessons learnt from mediation and conflict resolution to better assist in resolving problematic issues. This session was the last phase of the Good Services Capacity Building Programme, which was launched in June 2022. For reference: PeaceNexus is a private foundation founded in 2009 that support.organisations to make a greater positive impact when working in unstable countries.
