The results of assessment of the functioning of the Kazakhstan National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct were presented in Paris. On March 6, 2024, a meeting of the Working Group on Responsible Business Conduct is held in Paris (France). Delegates from about 50 countries take part in the work and discussions within the framework of this platform. During the meeting, the conclusions and results of the expert assessment of the Kazakhstan National Contact Point (NCP) were presented. First Vice-Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Zhaksylykov Timur Mekeshevich made a report on the activities of the NCP and the dissemination of standards of RBC in Kazakhstan and shared his impressions of the assessment. Representatives of the Secretariat of the NCP of Kazakhstan, represented by Economic Research Institute JSC (ERI), also took part in this event. It is worth reminding that the expert assessment of the NCP of Kazakhstan was conducted in October 2023 by the OECD Secretariat with the involvement of representatives of the NCP of France, South Korea and Egypt. The purpose of the expert assessment was to determine the compliance of the NCP's work in Kazakhstan with the main criteria of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on RBC (OECD Guidelines), as well as to develop recommendations for improving the NCP mechanism and wider dissemination of standards of RBC. The OECD Secretariat noted the efforts made by the NCP of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan and its Secretariat to give priority to the promotion of standards of public health and proactive implementation of these approaches in the state policy of entrepreneurship development. Also, based on the results of the assessment, Kazakhstan was recommended to pay attention to the wider involvement of the civil community in the process of accepting and considering complaints about alleged violations of the OECD Guidelines, as well as to make decisions based on the consensus of all NCP members. As a result of this meeting, the main directions of the NCP's work in Kazakhstan for 2024-2025 were developed, taking into account the recommendations of the OECD, and plans for further improvement of the mechanism for reviewing complaints were agreed upon. Also during this event, the results of the assessment of the functioning of the NCP in Poland and Estonia were announced. In addition, they discussed issues of changing the Rules for conducting expert assessments, determining the political landscape for the next two years, as well as discussing issues of public health in the field of climate change and artificial intelligence. Discussions within the Working Group will continue the next day (March 7 this year), where delegates will continue to discuss topical issues in the field of internal security and consideration of expert assessments of NCP from other countries.
