Seminar on the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct held in Almaty

On September 19, a seminar titled “OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct: A Tool for Protecting Rights and Reducing Reputational Risks for Companies” was held at Narxoz University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event wa.organized by the World Economy Research Center of the Economic Research Institute, bringing together students and faculty from law, economics, and humanities.

The seminar featured presentations by Alibek Raipov, Director of the World Economy Research Center, and Zhanar Tulegenova, Deputy Director of the Center and Head of the Secretariat of the National Contact Point (NCP). They emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and explained how the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises support companies in operating more transparently and responsibly.

Participants were introduced to the structure and role of the National Contact Point as a platform for dispute resolution. Law students explored the complaint submission procedure, while economics and management students learned how such complaints can affect a company’s reputation and financial risks. A real-life case study illustrated how the OECD Guidelines are applied in practice, which sparked particular interest among attendees.

The event concluded with a lively discussion and Q&A session, during which students received detailed answers to their questions. To measure effectiveness, a pre- and post-event survey was conducted, confirming a significant increase in participants’ knowledge levels. Students reported a clearer understanding of what the NCP is and how it operates.

The results highlighted the strong demand for such educational initiatives and their effectiveness in strengthening professional competencies. The seminar not only enhanced students’ practical skills but also deepened their understanding of the importance of responsible business conduct as a key element of today’s global business environment.
