Working Group Discussed Ways to Ensure the Protection of Human Rights in Business Activities in Line with UN Guiding Principles

![]() The meeting presented preliminary recommendations developed during previous Working Group sessions regarding the protection of human rights in business activities. Based on the findings of the National Baseline Assessment, participants discussed key directions for improving legislation and practical human rights protection mechanisms in the business environment. Key recommendations presented for discussion included: - the introduction of due diligence mechanisms in business operations to ensure compliance with human rights standards; - enhancement of labor rights protection legislation; - raising companies’ awareness of international standards and measures for their implementation; - integration of due diligence requirements into public procurement and investment agreements; - development and adoption of corporate human rights policies; - integration of the National Contact Point (NCP) into the mediation system; - development of corporate social responsibility mechanisms; - introduction of a transparent complaint review system and implementation of corporate human rights procedures. Participants also highlighted the need to develop training programs and practical guidance for businesses and government bodies to strengthen competencies in the area of human rights compliance. These recommendations are aimed at fostering a sustainable and responsible business environment in Kazakhstan. Work in this area will continue through consultations with government agencies, business associations, and international partners. In the near future, it is expected that stakeholders’ positions will be consolidated, serving as the basis for final decisions. The Working Group plans to complete the development of detailed recommendations, which will form the foundation for improving national legislation and practical mechanisms for the protection of human rights in business activities.
